Appeal Documents Translation Services in the UK — Certified for Every Appeal Stage
An appeal is a review of what happened below, not a fresh start. So the translation has to agree with the one used at first instance — if a witness’s words arrive on appeal in different English, it looks as though the evidence has changed. We translate appeal documents against the existing record, not in isolation.

Who We Provide Appeal Documents Translation For in the UK
Appeals arrive with a history. There is already a file, already a decision, and usually already some translation in it. Everyone below is working with that inheritance rather than a blank page.
Appellate Counsel & Chambers
Counsel settling grounds who need the decision below quoted accurately and the evidence to read as it did at first instance. Works with our skeleton argument translation service.
Solicitors Running Appeals
Teams assembling an appeal bundle from a file that already contains translations, sometimes done by two different agencies over two years.
Immigration & Asylum Advisers
Regulated advisers taking a case from the First-tier to the Upper Tribunal, alongside the outcome work covered on our tribunal determination translation page.
Employment Appeal Representatives
Reps and unions taking a judgment to the EAT, where the point of law turns on exactly what the tribunal recorded.
Appellants Without Representation
People preparing their own grounds who need to understand the decision and see which findings can actually be challenged.
Overseas Parties & Co-Counsel
Clients and lawyers abroad following a UK appeal who need the papers in a language they read before instructions are given.
Costs Draftsmen & Litigation Support
Teams pricing an appeal or preparing bundles who need translation volumes scoped before the budget is fixed.
Advice Agencies & Law Centres
Caseworkers supporting onward appeals on tight funding, where translating selectively is the difference between running the appeal and not.
Appeal Documents and Bundles We Translate
Two categories, and they are handled differently. Documents created for the appeal are translated fresh. Documents carried up from the hearing below are checked against how they were rendered the first time.
Once the appeal bundle is paginated, page-matched delivery becomes the priority — see our evidence bundle translation page. Foreign authorities cited in the grounds are covered under foreign case law translation.
Appeal Documents Translation — Before & After Examples
Three documents, three different obligations: a ground that must point somewhere, evidence that must not appear to have changed, and a transcript that is already a translation of a translation.
Ground 2: the judge erred in law at [34] by treating the absence of corroboration as determinative, contrary to the finding recorded at [19].
Zarzut 2: sąd naruszył prawo w pkt [34], uznając brak potwierdzenia za rozstrzygający, co pozostaje w sprzeczności z ustaleniem zawartym w pkt [19].
Am plecat din locuință în jurul orei 21:00, după ce am fost sunat de vecin.
I left the property at around 9pm, after I was called by my neighbour.
JUDGE: Why did you not mention this before? APPELLANT (through interpreter): I was frightened and I did not understand the question.
GJYQTARI: Pse nuk e përmendët këtë më parë? APELUESI (përmes përkthyesit): Isha i frikësuar dhe nuk e kuptova pyetjen.
Extracts are illustrative, with invented facts and references. Nothing here is taken from a real appeal.
What Appeal Documents Translation Must Match From the Record Below
This is the difference between appeal work and everything else we do. At first instance a translation only has to be right. On appeal it has to be right and it has to agree with what came before.
The record below is fixed
Whatever was translated for the first hearing is now part of the history of the case. Re-translating it afresh produces different English for the same words, and the other side reads that as a change in the evidence.
Interpreted transcripts are not re-translated
If a witness answered through an interpreter, the transcript is already English of somebody else’s rendering. Translating it back is two removes from what was said, so we label it as interpreted rather than presenting it as original speech.
References have to resolve upward
Grounds cite paragraphs of the decision and pages of the bundle below. If any of those stop landing after translation, the appeal court cannot check the point being made.
Fresh material is flagged, never blended
Documents that were not before the court below are kept visibly separate in what we deliver, so nobody has to work out later which parts are new.
Terminology carries up from first instance
A term rendered one way at the hearing below is rendered the same way on appeal. Where the earlier translation was wrong, we tell you and let you decide — we do not correct the record quietly.
The decision is quoted, not paraphrased
Where grounds quote the judgment, the quotation matches the judgment word for word. A tidied-up quotation invites the response that the ground misstates what was actually said.
Permission and Substantive Appeal Documents Translation — Two Different Jobs
Treating an appeal as one long instruction is how translation budgets get spent before anyone knows whether the appeal is going anywhere. We split it deliberately.
Permission stage is short and sharp
Grounds, the decision under appeal and sometimes a short skeleton. Small volume, tight deadline, and the only question is whether the appeal is arguable.
The substantive appeal is a bundle exercise
If permission is granted, the volume changes completely: evidence from below, transcripts, authorities and a full bundle, usually with weeks rather than days.
Translating everything at permission stage wastes money
Most appeals do not reach the substantive stage. Translating the full bundle before permission is decided means paying for work that may never be used.
What we do at permission is reused later
The glossary and any translated extracts carry straight into the substantive stage, so nothing is paid for twice if permission is granted.
General information about how appeal documents are prepared, not legal advice. Time limits, the test for permission and the rules on fresh evidence differ by court and tribunal — check the decision and take advice from a solicitor, counsel or a regulated adviser.
Certified Appeal Documents Translation for UK Courts and Tribunals
The middle option here does not exist anywhere else in our work. On appeal, being able to show that a translation matches the earlier one is sometimes worth more than the translation itself.
Certified for filing
A signed statement of accuracy naming the translator and the language pair, prepared for documents going into the appeal bundle or filed with the court or tribunal.
Consistency statement
Where a document was translated below and appears again on appeal, we can confirm in writing that the version supplied matches the earlier one, or set out precisely where and why it differs.
Understanding copy for the client
Where the translation exists purely so an appellant or an overseas client can follow the appeal, certification adds cost and nothing else. We price it as a plain translation and say so.
Appeal Documents Translation in 100+ Languages
By the time a case reaches appeal it may have passed through two or three different translators. Part of our job is reading all of them before we write a word of our own.
Where an earlier translation exists we review it first, note where our rendering would differ and why, and give you that note before anything is filed. You decide what to do with it.
Need Appeal Documents Translated Before Your Deadline?
Appeal windows are short and they differ between courts and tribunals. Send the decision and the date it was sent out, and we will tell you what can realistically be done in the time that is left.
Confidential Appeal Documents Translation for Sensitive Cases
An appeal file carries everything from the case below plus the argument about why it went wrong. Draft grounds in particular show exactly where a party thinks it is weak.
Why UK Legal Teams Choose Our Appeal Documents Translation Service
Six things that matter specifically on appeal, where the translation is judged against a record that already exists.
We read the earlier translations first
Before translating anything for the appeal, we look at what was used below. It is the step almost nobody takes, and it is where the problems on appeal come from.
Differences reported, never hidden
If our rendering would differ from the earlier one, you get a note explaining where and why. What to do about it is your decision and counsel’s, not ours.
Transcripts handled as transcripts
Interpreted answers are labelled as interpreted. We will not present a translation of a transcript as though it were the witness speaking directly.
Permission scoped separately
Small, fast, cheap at the permission stage. The full bundle only once permission has been granted and the volume is actually needed.
Independent second-linguist revision
Every certified appeal document is revised by a different qualified linguist, with paragraph and page references verified against the source.
One glossary from first instance upward
Terminology agreed once and applied consistently, whether the appeal takes six weeks or two years to reach a hearing.
Our Appeal Documents Translation Process, Step by Step
Six steps, and the second one is unique to appeal work. Reviewing what already exists costs almost nothing and prevents the problem that is hardest to fix later.
Send the decision and the earlier translations
Both matter. The originals tell us what the documents say; the earlier translations tell us what the record already contains and what we have to agree with.
We review what exists before quoting
A short consistency review flags where an earlier rendering would cause difficulty on appeal. You get that note whether or not you go ahead with us.
Scope the permission stage only
Grounds, the decision under appeal, and any extract counsel needs. Small, quick and cheap, so nothing is spent on a bundle that may never be built.
Translation against the agreed glossary
Terminology fixed from first instance forward. Fresh appeal documents translated properly; documents from below matched to their earlier versions.
Revision and reference verification
A second linguist revises, then every paragraph number, page reference and quotation from the decision is checked against the source.
Substantive stage only if permission is granted
The full bundle is then translated using the glossary and extracts already produced, so the permission-stage work is not paid for twice.
Appeal Documents Translation Cost in the UK
Split deliberately across the two stages. The permission pack is a flat fee because it is a predictable set of documents; the bundle is per page because its size is not.
Permission Pack
Grounds and the decision under appeal
Full Appeal Bundle
Once permission has been granted
Urgent
Within 24 hours
Pages of 250 words. Anything translated at the permission stage is credited against the bundle if permission is granted. Documents already translated below are checked rather than retranslated, and charged accordingly.
Appeal Documents Translation Case Studies
Parties, case numbers and identifying detail are held back. The courts, the languages and the way the work was staged are not.
Upper Tribunal Permission — Albanian
Grounds turning on two paragraphs of the determination, with a first-instance witness statement translated two years earlier by another agency and needing to read the same way.
Employment Appeal — Romanian Transcript
An EAT appeal where the point of law depended on an exchange conducted through an interpreter, needing the transcript rendered for the appellant to verify.
Court of Appeal Bundle — Arabic
A civil appeal where the core bundle carried contracts and correspondence already translated at trial, with fresh material needing to sit visibly apart from it.
Appeal Documents Translation Reviews From UK Clients
Feedback from solicitors, counsel, advisers and caseworkers who took a case up a level.
"They read the trial translations before touching ours and found a discrepancy nobody had noticed in two years. That is not a service I had been offered before."
"Scoping the permission stage on its own saved my client roughly four thousand pounds on an appeal that was never going to need the full bundle."
"The transcript came back marked as interpreted throughout. Counsel said it was the first time a supplier had done that without being asked."
"Every paragraph reference in the grounds still landed after translation. Sounds basic. It is not."
"They flagged where their wording would differ from the earlier version and left the decision to us. That was exactly the right call."
"As a law centre we cannot translate everything. They told us honestly what we could skip and stood by it."

Appeal Documents Translation in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Across the UK
Appeals concentrate in a handful of centres while the files behind them sit in solicitors’ offices and clients’ homes everywhere else. Nothing about this service depends on being near one of them.
We work by secure upload and tracked post across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Where an appeal has moved between representatives in different cities, we can take the file from one and deliver to the other.
